Big data, crowdsourcing, and social media content analysis provide several new challenges for cartography. On one hand, cartographers need to develop methods for social media data collection, filtering, and analysis. On the other hand, they need to implement visualization methods to map connections between social media content that might not be geospatially related at all. Harvesting social media data, searching for keywords and placing the data on a thematic map is certainly not enough.
