Title

Educational Engagement through Google Maps, Earth and Street View

Abstract

A decade ago the idea of being able to view your house, in an image capture by a satellite, on a phone, was pure science fiction. Yet now it is normal for a child to grow up knowing what their home town looks like from space. Since Google Maps and Google Earth were released in 2005, they have revolutionized how we view and explore the World. Along with Google Street View, these applications provide an an ever expanding global dataset of mapped streets, 3D terrain, satellite and ground level imagery.

More importantly they provide user friendly ways to view these data. Now anyone with an internet connection and web-browsing device can become an armchair explorer of Planet Earth.

Join us as John Bailey, the program manager for Geo Education on the Google Earth Outreach team demonstrates how Google’s Geospatial Tools can be used to navigate and tell stories about the world around us.
